This transceiver offers consistent and reliable power output with low SSB intermodulation characteristics by utilizing an ultra-low-noise DDS (Direct Digital Synthesizer) instead of noisy PLL circuits. The receiver front end of the FT-847 has undergone extensive testing and redesign to ensure top-notch performance across all bands, from VLF to UHF. The Shuttle-JogTM Tuning feature initially introduced on the FT-1000MP and FT-920 models, allows for quick frequency adjustments through its unique spring-loaded design. Additionally, the Separate Sub-VFO tuning knob provides versatility in operation, serving as a Clarifier control during transceive mode, adjusting receive VFO frequency in HF split, and correcting uplink frequency for Doppler Shift in satellite operations. Equipped with a built-in RF clipping-type speech processor, the FT-847 enhances talk power by increasing average SSB output by approximately 6dB. Users can adjust the transmitted IF passband frequency to match their voice pattern. The transceiver also offers a range of tools for exceptional CW performance, including a DSP Bandpass filter for sharp selectivity and a DSP Noise Reduction Circuit for improved signal clarity.
