Heil BM - 17 Dual Headset (Double Sided + IC Electret)

The Heil BM-17 Dual-Sided iC Electret Headset is designed for amateur radio operators seeking exceptional comfort, clear communications, and optimized performance with compatible Icom transceivers. Newly redesigned for enhanced versatility, the BM-17 features a swivel-mounted boom arm that can be positioned on either the left or right side, allowing operators to customize the headset to their preferred operating style.

Its dual-ear design provides excellent audio isolation, helping operators focus on incoming signals and communications in noisy environments, contest stations, or during extended operating sessions. The highly sensitive, low-distortion speakers deliver clear receive audio while requiring minimal AF drive from the transceiver. With a speaker frequency response of 200 Hz to 5 kHz, the BM-17 is optimized for voice communications and exceptional intelligibility.

The headset is equipped with Heil's iC electret microphone element, specifically engineered for use with the low-gain microphone audio circuits found in select Icom transceivers. Offering outstanding speech clarity and a wide operating frequency response of 35 Hz to 12 kHz, the iC element provides natural and articulate transmit audio. Fixed -3 dB points at 100 Hz and 12 kHz help ensure consistent performance, while the microphone's sensitivity of -57 dB at 600 ohms output centered at 1 kHz delivers reliable voice reproduction.

The iC electret element requires +5V DC bias power supplied by the radio and must be used with the appropriate adapter cable (sold separately). Operators should consult their Icom radio manual for microphone bias power settings and compatibility information.

Built for long operating sessions, the BM-17 features replaceable acoustic foam ear pads on both ear cups and a padded headband with an internal stainless-steel support band. The headband can be gently adjusted to achieve a personalized fit, providing lasting comfort during contesting, DXing, and everyday operation.

The microphone terminates in a red 1/8" mono plug, while the headphone connection uses a black 1/8" stereo plug. A 1/8" to 1/4" headphone adapter is included for added flexibility across a variety of radio configurations.

For easy integration with popular transceivers, the BM-17 is compatible with Heil AD-1 series adapter cables (sold separately), simplifying connection to a wide range of amateur radio systems.
