Hi all this radio is a totally fantastic reciver only thing missing is an FM mode on SW for the 27 mhz CB band and feet to slant the rx to make it easy to read the display when sitting on a flat desk top. SSB works extreamly well, and also AM for broadcast MW is also exellent, its build quality is 100% and ease of use is great its worth every penny if your thinking of starting into the shortwave hobby this rx is for you i can only rate this rx at 5 stars on the site but i would really give it 10 out of 10. hope my comments are of help. 73s GOOD DX CF6.PAS pete
"The Millionaires Radio"This was how the origianal grundig Satellite was described to me by a pawnbroker who had one for sale back in the late 1970's. One of the first transistorised sets which allowed the rich the abillity to tune into transmittions not normally available to the public. Before the internet it would have been a valuable tool to gather intellegence and watch your assets. The Eton is a back engineered model of the original product which retains the styling with added technical improvements. The original curcuits were designed by Drake who were producing HF SSB radios for government agencies. In terms of value for money this radio is a winner. It does not suffer from a lack of selectivity when using an external antenna as do many more expensive portables and scanners. Would be ideal for a serious shortwave broadcast listener or airband enthusiast. HF airband listening from Shannon and Santa Maria on SSB was excellent. Please note for VHF airband you will need to connect an external antenna via the BNC socket as the telescopic antenna does not serve these frequencies. One of the first transmittions received on USB SSB was from the (Commando) aircraft currently flying over Lybia on a daily basis warning military personnel to stay away from instillations and equipment or they would be destroyed. 10125Khz USB & 10040Khz, signal was loud and clear on the telescopic antenna. Interesting, I like this receiver, for price and its usage, it is a class of its own.
its a shame it dose not have the marine band on it then i think they would sell a lot more as well as fm for cb and 10 ham fm otherwise not bad. if it was a bit more pricy with the extras it would be worth it.
